Sweet Greetings from Stuck on Sweet!

Hello everyone! This is Jessica from Stuck on Sweet, absolutely thrilled to be guest posting here on A Cedar Spoon today as Julia prepares for the incredibly exciting arrival of her second baby boy. I can’t even wait to meet him! I’m sure many of you have seen photos of her first son, Will. Isn’t he just the cutest, happiest little guy you ever did see? The last time I saw him – which feels like ages ago, it’s been too long! – he was proudly showing me his belly button. I completely lost it; he’s just so darn cute and full of character.

Speaking of things that are cute, I think these little treats are pretty adorable too, don’t you?

Oreo cake pops with sprinkles

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, one of my absolute favorite holidays, I figured it was the perfect time to share something extra sweet. Whether you’re celebrating with a special someone or enjoying a cozy night in, Valentine’s Day is practically an excuse to devour delicious sweets, and I am totally here for it! It’s a day dedicated to love, friendship, and indulgence, and what better way to express affection than through homemade treats?

My Michael’s Obsession: A Baker’s Paradise!

Have you been to Michael’s lately? If not, you absolutely NEED to go! Now! Seriously, drop everything and head there. They have a dazzling array of Valentine’s Day goodies galore, and I’m a bit (okay, a lot) obsessed. The moment I step inside, my creativity just sparks. I recently picked up this adorable HEART-shaped cookie cutter, along with some charming sprinkles in festive colors, and the perfect candy coating for these very cake pops. Michael’s is truly like Target for crafters and bakers – you simply can’t leave without a bunch of stuff you didn’t even know you needed!

During my last visit, in addition to the Valentine’s essentials, I also left with some new decorative tins and, of course, more cupcake liners. They seem to release new designs every single time I go, and I always rationalize it by telling myself, “Well, hey, can’t hurt to get a few more, right? And they’re only like $1.99!” My kitchen cupboard is now bursting at the seams, absolutely FULL of cupcake liners. It looks like I need to start baking some serious batches of cupcakes to put them all to good use!

Easy & Irresistible Oreo Cake Pops: Your Guide to Sweet Success!

Now, let’s talk about these glorious little pops! Oreo cake pops are, hands down, one of the easiest and most delightful treats you can make. You genuinely only need three core ingredients to create these crowd-pleasing confections: Oreos, cream cheese, and your choice of candy coating or chocolate. That’s it! Their simplicity makes them an ideal project for bakers of all skill levels, and the results are always incredibly impressive.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 1 package (approximately 14.3 oz) Oreo cookies (any flavor works, but classic chocolate is a great start!)
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 12 oz (or more, depending on desired thickness) candy melts (white, milk chocolate, or colored for festive occasions!)
  • Optional: Lollipop sticks, sprinkles, edible glitter, or other decorations

Step-by-Step Instructions for Perfect Oreo Cake Pops:

  1. Crush Your Oreos: Start by crushing the entire package of Oreo cookies, including the cream filling. For the smoothest consistency, use a food processor until fine crumbs form. If you don’t have a food processor, place the Oreos in a large Ziploc bag and crush them with a rolling pin until they resemble fine sand. Ensure there are no large chunks left.
  2. Mix with Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, combine the finely crushed Oreo crumbs with the softened cream cheese. Mix thoroughly until a moist, uniform dough forms. You can use your hands, a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, or a hand mixer. The mixture should be firm enough to roll into balls but soft enough to combine well.
  3. Roll into Balls: Take small portions of the Oreo mixture (about 1 tablespoon each) and roll them into compact, smooth balls. Aim for uniform size for even dipping. Place the rolled balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Chill the Balls: This is a crucial step! Place the baking sheet with the Oreo balls into the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or even better, in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes. Chilling helps the balls firm up, making them easier to dip and less likely to fall apart.
  5. Prepare Candy Coating: While the Oreo balls are chilling, melt your candy melts according to package directions. This typically involves heating them in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until smooth and fully melted. Alternatively, you can use a double boiler method for a more controlled melt. If your coating is too thick, you can thin it with a tiny amount of vegetable shortening or paramount crystals.
  6. Insert Sticks & Dip: Take a lollipop stick and dip about ¼ inch of its tip into the melted candy coating. Immediately insert the coated tip into the center of an Oreo ball, about halfway through. This acts as “glue” to secure the stick. Repeat for all balls.
  7. Dip the Cake Pops: Once the stick is secure, fully submerge each Oreo ball into the melted candy coating. Swirl gently to ensure complete coverage. Lift the cake pop out of the coating and gently tap the stick against the side of the bowl to allow any excess coating to drip off. This creates a smooth, even finish.
  8. Decorate (Optional): If you’re adding sprinkles or other decorations, do so immediately after dipping, while the coating is still wet. For Valentine’s Day, think red, pink, and white sprinkles, or even edible heart-shaped glitter!
  9. Set the Coating: Place the decorated cake pops upright in a styrofoam block or a tall glass filled with rice or sugar. Allow the coating to set completely at room temperature or by placing them back into the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.

Why Oreo Cake Pops Are a Party Favorite:

I absolutely adore making cake pops for parties and gatherings because they are not only incredibly fun to create, but people genuinely LOVE them! They offer a delightful combination of charm, deliciousness, and a touch of uniqueness that makes them stand out from standard cookies or cupcakes. Their bite-sized nature makes them perfect for portion control and easy snacking, eliminating the need for plates or forks. Plus, they’re incredibly portable and can be themed for virtually any occasion, from birthdays to baby showers, and especially for romantic holidays like Valentine’s Day.

Embracing the Beauty of Imperfection:

Now, I know many of you might worry about making them “perfect.” Let me tell you, achieving magazine-perfect cake pops is genuinely difficult and often takes a lot of practice and time. I’m not saying don’t strive for perfection if that’s your goal, but please, please don’t feel like your cake pops are “ruined” if they don’t look exactly like the ones you see in glossy photos. Homemade treats carry a special kind of charm, a unique character that store-bought items can never replicate.

Just take a look at the sticks in mine – they’re all a little crooked here and there! And honestly? I think it adds personality. It shows they were made with love and care, by real hands, and not by a machine. So, relax, have fun with the process, and embrace the little quirks. The most important thing is the joy of creating and sharing something delicious with those you care about.

I hope you enjoy making these delightful Oreo Cake Pops as much as I do, and thank you so much for hanging out with me here on A Cedar Spoon today!
